Premiership Arrogance
February 10th 2009 03:55
The recent sackings of Chelsea boss Luis Scolari and Portsmouths Tony Adams have once again put the arrogance of Premier League clubs under the spot light. There is only one team that can win the league title and if coach doesn't succeed in producing it in his first season he is out of the door. Six months or even a year is no way near long enough to stamp your authority and playing style on a team. In many cases clubs need re building from the ground up and that can take years to complete. Liverpool are one club that is showing that faith in someone you know to be a good coach can reap rewards. They are Manchester Utds main challengers for the title and if they manage a win Old Trafford it could signal a new beginning for them. But the point is it has taken Rafael Benitez 5 years to get to this point and I am sure even he will admit that more needs to be done if they are to continue to compete at the top.
I know there is a lot of money riding on the sport now a day, but you have to look for long term success if you are to survive. The premier league needs a big shake up.
