Footballs Worst Kept Secret
December 8th 2008 22:50
It is definatley one of footballs worst kept secrets that Lukas Podolski will be leaving Bayern Munich even with their defiance in the press that he is going no where. The only questions were when and where would he be going. The player him self had stated his desire to go in the January transfer window as he was sick of being the third choice striker behid Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose, but it now looks like he will have to wait until the end of the season. The Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has confirmed that Podolski will be leaving the club, but not until a replacement is found. "We would let Podolski go on July 1 if we find a replacement, but we should manage that," he said.
"However, we cannot allow him to leave in the winter break because we would need a player who could play in the Champions League."
Cologne are the only team to have put in a solid bid so far, but Hoeness wasn't impressed by the approach "Cologne have made us an offer which was unspeakable," Hoeness added on DSF television. "Therefore, I do not have the feeling they are really serious about getting him. "We paid around 10 million euros for him and Podolski is not worth any less today."
